Japan is packed in Umeda, Osaka! KITTE Osaka

 Hello, this is Okyo.

This time I would like to write about “KITTE Osaka,” which opened last summer.

What is KITTE Osaka?

KITTE Osaka is a commercial complex that opened in front of Osaka Station in July 2024.

It is located on the first basement to the sixth floor of JP Tower Osaka, a building constructed on the site of the former Osaka Central Post Office.

It is part of the “KITTE” brand operated by Japan Post, and was established in Osaka following Marunouchi and Nagoya in Tokyo.

The name “KITTE” is derived from the Japan Post's postage stamps (kitte), and it expresses our desire to be a facility that can deliver the feelings that are put into products and services by adding the value of “KITTE” to them, just as you deliver a letter (thought) to your loved ones by affixing a postage stamp to it. We also want to create a place where people can “come and see” our products and services.

The name “KITTE” also means “come” and conveys the desire to create a lively atmosphere, which is important for a commercial facility, and to have many people visit the facility.

The concept of this commercial facility is “UNKNOWN,” based on the idea of “gathering attractive people, goods, and things from various parts of Japan that have yet to be known or experienced, and aiming to become a place where people can discover and rediscover the good qualities of Japan.

In the entrance atrium space, part of the former Osaka Central Post Office building has been relocated.

Features of KITTE Osaka

Gourmet foods and stores unique to Osaka

KITTE Osaka offers a wide variety of restaurants and stores where visitors can fully enjoy the charms of the Kansai region.

From famous restaurants that originated Osaka's famous okonomiyaki and takoyaki to sweets stores that originated in the Kansai region, you can enjoy local delicacies.

There are also select stores selling limited-edition goods and fashionable general merchandise stores to delight visitors.

Furthermore, there are many restaurants and cafes that use local ingredients, allowing visitors to enjoy the tastes of Kansai, a treasure trove of culinary delights.

For example, original sweets from long-established Japanese confectionery stores and craft beer from local breweries are available in abundance, along with a variety of special menus that cannot be found anywhere else.

KITTE Osaka is also home to popular ramen and sushi restaurants in the Kansai region, which are loved not only by tourists but also by locals.

In particular, sushi using seasonal seafood and ramen that makes the most of a special broth are sure to entice the palates of visitors.

Sweets lovers can also enjoy limited-edition sweets made by famous patisseries and Japanese confectionery stores in the Kansai region.

Fluffy pancakes, special matcha green tea sweets, and dorayaki handmade by artisans are just a few of the many unique items available here.

In the shopping area, you will find stores selling traditional Kansai crafts and fashionable apparel brands, where you can purchase items unique to the local area.

For example, leather goods handmade by craftsmen in Osaka and Japanese accessories supervised by a long-established shop in Kyoto are available of high quality, making them ideal as souvenirs.

A hub for transmitting local culture

KITTE Osaka regularly holds events and workshops to introduce traditional Kansai crafts and culture.

For example, workshops on making Japanese sweets and calligraphy are popular among visitors from Japan and abroad, offering opportunities to experience Japanese culture close at hand.

Many events are also planned to allow visitors to experience the unique culture of the Kansai region, such as sales demonstrations by local craftspeople and exhibitions of traditional handicrafts.

For visitors to Japan, in particular, this is an excellent opportunity to experience Japanese culture and history, and it is also attracting international attention.

Another of KITTE Osaka's unique features is its traditional performing arts performances.

Japanese classical performing arts such as Noh, Kyogen, and Rakugo are regularly held to disseminate local culture.

In particular, rakugo performances offer a unique Kansai sense of humor that brings smiles to the faces of visitors.

In addition, art exhibits and live performances by local artists are also held, creating a new cultural venue that fuses modern culture with tradition.

A wide variety of events, such as exhibits of works by young artists and installations that fuse calligraphy and digital art, create a creative space.

Culture and specialties from regions outside Osaka

One of the main features of the second floor is a line of antenna stores from regions outside of Osaka under the title “Feel JAPAN Journey: Yeemon Nippon Meguri” (Feel Japan Journey: A Tour of Japan).

This is a floor where visitors can discover and rediscover the goodness of Japan by gathering the attractions of various regions of Japan with a focus on products and sightseeing.

Antenna stores in each region sell local goodies and promote the charms of various regions.

The antenna shops are a good place to start your next trip.

KITTE Osaka is conveniently located directly connected to Osaka Station and is accessible by JR, subway, Hankyu, and Hanshin lines.

In particular, the location is convenient for travelers from far away, as it is only a short ride from Shin-Osaka Station, a Shinkansen bullet train stop.

It is also within walking distance of Umeda Station on the Midosuji Subway Line, Osaka Umeda Station on the Hankyu Line, and Osaka Umeda Station on the Hanshin Line, providing easy access from major cities in the Kansai region.

Furthermore, “Nishi-Umeda Station” on the Osaka Metro Yotsubashi Line and “Higashi Umeda Station” on the Tanimachi Line are also available, making it possible to visit the area by a variety of routes.
